WHAT THE STUDIO WANTS YOU TO KNOW
DESCRIPTION:
Mel Brooks' monstrously crazy
tribute to Mary Shelley's classic pokes hilarious fun at just about every
Frankenstein movie ever made. Summoned by a will to his late grandfather's
castle in Trasylvania, young Dr. Frankenstein (Gene Wilder) soon discovers
the scientist's step-by-step manual explaining how to bring a corpse to
life.
Assited by the hunchback Igot (Marty
Feldman) and the curvaceous Inga (Teri Garr), he creates a monster (Peter
Boyle) who only wants to be loved. Cloris Leachman, Madeline Kahn, Kenneth
Mars and Gene Hackman co-star in this inspired vision of lunacy.

TRIVIA TO IMPRESS YOUR EASILY IMPRESSED

-
This film is loosely based on the book Frankenstein
written by Mary Shelly, as well as the 1931 movie of the same.
-
Many of the props from the laboratory were actual set pieces
from the the original 1931 film.
-
The cast and crew were having such a good time on set, that
Mel Brooks wrote additional scenes for the movie just so that they could
continue shooting. The original cut of the movie wound up being over three
hours long and Brooks himself thought the film was a disaster because only
one out of every three jokes was funny. So they simply cut out all of the
jokes they didn't like and the movie was cut down to 104 minutes.
-
The Aerosmith song Walk This Way was written the day
after the band saw a screening of Young Frankenstein. It was inspired
by Marty Feldman's line as Igor telling Dr. Frankenstein to "walk this
way" when the pair first meets.
-
Madeline Kahn was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Supporting
Actress, while Cloris Leachman was nominated for Best Actress, this is
unusual because Kahn actually has more screen time that Leachman does,
although the nominations would suggest otherwise.
