THE GEEK BOX
TRIVIA TO IMPRESS YOUR EASILY IMPRESSED FRIENDS
-
Bryan Singer was originally set to direct this movie, but
he left the project when he was offered the chance to direct Superman
Returns. The film was then offered to Matthew Vaughn who was actually
on set directing for six weeks before leaving the project. The chair was
then offered to Brett Ratner who recently ousted from directing Mission:
Impossible 3 after Tom Cruise decided he wanted J.J Abrams to direct
the film, who became available after Warner Brothers decided they didn't
want him to direct Superman Returns in favor of Bryan Singer.
-
Halle Berry originally refused to come back for the final
installment as Storm due to conflicts with Bryan Singer and complaints
that her character's story line wasn't big enough. She changed her mind
when Brett Ratner took over directing and agreed to have the story rewritten
with her as the new leader of The X-Men.
-
A new type of digital technology was used in the film for
the opening sequence in the film which made Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewert
look 20 years younger. This was accomplished by using photos of them from
the past and a program which digitally alters the newly filmed faces to
match the photos.
-
The original story for this film that Bryan Singer had approved
to direct made the focal point of the story about Jean-Grey's transformation
into The Dark Phoenix, and was set to have villain Emma Frost/White Queen
played by Sigourney Weaver as a main character. When Brett Ratner took
over he had the script retooled to make the mutant cure the focal point
and dropped the White Queen character completely.
-
A 94 foot section of the Golden Gate Bridge was recreated
for this film, the rest of the bridge was added with digital technology
in post production.
