• When Woody Allen was looking to shoot his next film he was informed by the city of Barcelona that they would cover his production costs if he shot the movie there. This movie was written years early and set in San Francisco, however with the offer from Barcelona, he decided to rewrite the film set in the Spanish city. The city ended up paying more than 2 million Euros worth of production costs.
• There is a small scene in the movie which required Javier Bardem to briefly drive a car which he has never done before. He underwent several hours of training prior to the scene, however he still was not able to obtain a driver's license by the time the film wrapped.
• A scene in this film takes place in the small Spanish town of Oviedo and shows many of the town's sights. One of the attractions not featured in the film was a statue of Woody Allen, which the town installed in 2003.
