WHAT THE STUDIO WANTS YOU TO KNOW
DESCRIPTION:
From the revolutionary minds
of Pixar Animation Studios and the acclaimed director of Monsters, Inc.
comes a hilariously uplifting adventure where the sky is no longer the
limit.
Carl Fredricksen, a retired balloon
salesman, is part rascal, part dreamer who is ready for his last chance
at high-flying excitement. Tying thousands of balloons to his house, Carl
sets off to the lost world of his childhood dreams. Unbeknownst to Carl,
Russell, an overeager eight-year-old Wilderness Explorer who has never
ventured beyond his backyard, is in the wrong place at the wrong time -
Carl's front porch! The world's most unlikely duo reach new heights and
meet fantastic friends like Dug, a dog with a special collar that allows
him to speak. and Kevin, a rare 13-foot-tall flightless bird. Stuck together
in the wilds of the jungle, Carl realizes that sometimes life's biggest
adventures aren't the ones you set out looking for.

This was both the first animated film and the first 3-D film
to over open the world famous Cannes Film Festival.

If Carl's house was approximately 1600 square feet, and the
average house weighs between 60-100 pounds per square foot, it weighs 120,000
pounds. If the average helium balloon can carry .009 pounds (or 4.63 grams),
it would take 12,658,392 balloons to lift his house off the ground. (20,622
balloons appear on the house when it first lifts off.)
-
The character's personality and design were supposedly based
on ta combination of Walter Matthau and Spencer Tracy.
-
The story about Charles Muntz and the large bird is an obvious
reference to the book The Lost World by Arthur Conan Doyle.
-
In June of 2009 a sick girl dying of cancer's only wish was
to see Up before she died, however there was no way for her to leave
her hospital and it was not thought that she would live long enough to
see the movie premiere. A family friend contacted Pixar and they sent over
an employee with a rough copy of the film on DVD for the girl to watch,
however she was in so much pain that she couldn't keep her eyes open to
actually view the film. So the girl's mother described everything that
was happening to the girl, and a mere six hours after viewing the film
she passed away.

When the dogs are flying in the fighters, they are spoofing
the final X-Wing scene from Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. One
of the changes made is changing the name "Red Squadron" to "Gray Squadron",
this was done because dog's are colorblind.
