-
This film is based on the 1972 book of the same name by John
Godey. This book was previously made into film in 1974 starring Walter
Matthau.
-
In the original film the main character was named Zachary
Garber, however in homage to Walter Matthau who originated the role in
1974, the character's name was changed to Walter Garber. The costume he
wears pays tribute as well as it is inverted version of what Matthau wore
in the original. Originally Matthau wore a multicolored shirt with a solid
yellow tie, while in this film Washington wears a solid yellow short with
a multi-colored tie.
