TRIVIA TO IMPRESS YOUR EASILY IMPRESSED FRIENDS

• This film is based off of the book See No Evil: The True Story of a Ground Soldier in the CIA's War on Terrorism by Robert Baer who appears in a small role in this film as CIA Security Officer # 2.
• Before the lead role was given to George Clooney, it was offered to Harrison Ford who turned the role down. Ford has since said in interviews it was of the few roles he has turned down that he regretted. Clooney was also asked to shave his head for this role but refused to do so, as he was afraid it might not grow back.
• George Clooney gained 35 pounds for his role in this film by eating a pasta heavy diet. While filming the movie, the weight he gained caused him to injury his back which later had to be corrected with surgery and caused the star to be confined to a bed for a month.
• The name "Syriana" refers to an idea that Washington think-tankers came up with for a hypothetical re-shaping of the Middle East.
