TRIVIA TO IMPRESS YOUR EASILY IMPRESSED FRIENDS

• According to most experts the sun will not die out naturally for another 5 billion years, however in this film the sun is dying from a virus of sorts. The sun has hit with been with a "Q-ball",  a supersymmetric nucleus, left over from the big bang, and that is disrupting the normal matter in the sun. The "Q-Ball" has not actually been proven to exist yet, but is a theoretical particle, like Dark Matter that is being researched by CERN currently. The plot of this film is to shoot a massive nuclear bomb into the sun to essentially naturally kill off the "Q-Ball" particles and allow the sun to return to it's normal state.
• This marks the second film collaboration between screenwriter Alex Garland and director Danny Boyle, the first being 28 Days Later which also starred Cillian Murphy and Rose Byrne.
• Writer Alex Garland has said that this movie is his tribute to psychological sci-fi movies of the past.
