Originally Sam Raimi wanted to have Lizard be the main villain
in this film, however he was convinced by executives that Venom was a more
popular character and so he agreed to use Venom instead. However throughout
the entire film Topher Grace is never once referred to as Venom.
-
Thomas Haden Church worked out for 16 months prior to filming
to gain the large amount of upper body strength needed to accurately portray
the physique of the Sandman character. This extra strength may have contributed
to an injury as well. Church was told to punch through a series of bricks
he was told were fake, and he ended up punching at the bricks with full
force only to discover that he was punching actual bricks and wound up
breaking three knuckles in the process.
