This movie is an extension of the animated series The
Simpsons which began as a series in 1989 on the Fox Network. Prior
to that the show was seen in animated shorts on The Tracey Ullman Show.

Work on a Simpson's Movie has been rumored for years.
In 1997 Twentieth Century Fox registered the domain name SimpsonsMovie.com,
but though out all of the years there was never a script that the writers
felt was worthy of stretching into a feature length film. The idea for
this script began in 2003, and 158 drafts of that original script were
done before becoming the final script used in this film.
-
There were massive ad campaigns for this film, including
a competition for Springfields across the nation to compete for a chance
to host the World Premiere of the film. Springfield, Vermont won the contest,
however even in the film the writers included a long running joke that
makes it impossible to identify where the show actually takes place. In
addition to the contest, twelve 7-Eleven stores were revamped to look like
Kiwk-E-Marts, and all of the stores sold products that were featured in
the animated show.
-
The Choral version of Spider-Pig featured in this
movie was conducted by Hans Zimmer and managed to reach #24 on the British
Hit Singles list.
-
For some reason in the film version Moe's Tavern has
been renamed Moe's Bar.
