• George Clooney lost the role of Jack to Thomas Haden Church because the director thought that Clooney was too big of a star.
• The list of wine's in this movie was hand picked by director Alexander Payne, however the actors drank non-alcoholic versions of the real thing while shooting. Occasionally real wine was used when the stars drank so much of the non-alcoholic stuff they started to get sick from the taste of it.
• The picture that Paul Giamatti's character, Miles, looks at in his mothers house, is an actual picture of Paul with his real life father, former commissioner of the MLB Bart Giamatti.
