• This movie is based of the book Point Of Impact by Stephen Hunter, it is the first in the "Bob Lee Swagger series. As of 2007 there are three sequels and three prequels written about Swagger's father.
• Stephen Hunter, who wrote the book this movie is based on, won a Pulitzer for his work as movie critic for The Washington Post.
• Originally the first choice to play the main character was Keanu Reeves.
• Mark Wahlberg reportedly lost 20 pounds to "tighten" up and give him a more muscular look that would resemble that of a real life active duty sniper.
