DESCRIPTION:

Under Roman Polanski's chilling direction, a classic thriller is born. Rosemary (Mia Farrow) and Guy Woodhouse (John Cassavetes) are newlyweds, but Rosemary has no idea that her wedded bliss is about to come to a horrific end. Her husband's ambition as a struggling actor is about to plunge her into an abyss of terror like she has never known. In exchange for the taste of fame, Guy makes a deal with the devil that puts his wife and soul in jeopardy. When Rosemary becomes pregnant, her husband becomes odd, her neighbors (Sidney Blackmer and Academy Award winner Ruth Gordon) border on obsessive and her normal life turns into a surreal nightmare. Slowly, she begins to realize that a seed of evil has been planted... and she is its host.

This film is based on the book of the same name by Ira Levin.
As of 11/01/2006 this film is rank #226 on the imdb.com list of the top 250 films of all time.
This film takes place in the apartment building named The Dakota the same building that John Lennon was killed in. Lennon was a member of The Beatles who wrote the song Helter Skelter which is what Charles Manson and his followers named their killing spree after. One of the victims of the killing spree was Sharon Tate who was Roman Polanski's wife, who was pregnant at the time of her death.
This was Polanski's first American film, and also his first time adapting a novel to the screen. Polanski was reportedly obsessed with getting every detail from the book transferred to the screen authentically, even patterns and colors of people's shirts. Polanski even asked the author of the book, Ira Levin, what issue of The New Yorker Guy Woodhouse was supposed to be reading, to which Levin admitted later he had to make up an answer as he himself had no idea.
When Rosemary calls the actor who was struck blind, the voice on the other end of the phone is that of Tony Curtis.
The editor of this film, Sam O'Steen would later go on to direct a made for TV sequel to this film called Whatever Happened To Rosemary's Baby.
