TRIVIA TO IMPRESS YOUR EASILY IMPRESSED FRIENDS

• This movie is based on the graphic novel of the same name written by Max Allan Collins and Richard Piers Rayner.
• This movie is loosely based on the real life gangster John Looney and the hitman he employed and later betrayed. For the film, his name was changed to John Rooney.
• Tyler Hoechlin who plays the role of Michael Sullivan Jr., won his role after he auditioned in a nationwide casting call. He beat out more than 2000 other applicants.
• Anthony LaPaglia shot a scene in the film playing the infamous gangster Al Capone. However after filming wrapped director Sam Mendes thought it would be more powerful if Capone was never actually seen on camera so his scene was cut. LaPaglia was listed first in the "Special Thanks" portion of the credits.
• This movie is dedicated to Conrad L. Hall, the film's Cinematographer who died before the film was released. Hall went on to win an Oscar posthumously for his work on this film.
