Meryl Streep insisted on doing most of her own stunts for
this film. During one scene director Curtis Hanson asked Streep to do one
more take, she resisted but finally agreed. During the scene she fell off
of her raft and nearly drown in the process. When she was rescued she told
Hanson, "In the future, when I say I can't do something, I think we should
believe me."

Carrie Fisher of Star Wars fame did some uncredited
rewrites on the script for this film.
