    Adam Sandler, Don Cheadle, Jada Pinkett Smith and Liv Tyler star in this heart-rending story about Charlie Fineman (Sandler), who has slipped away from reality after the sudden loss of his wife and children. But Charlie's life takes a turn for the better when he runs into his old college roommate Alan Johnson (Cheadle), whose life is torn between the demands of career and family. TRIVIA TO IMPRESS YOUR EASILY IMPRESSED FRIENDS

• Mike Binder originally wrote the lead role of Charlie Binder for Tom Cruise, however he refused the role. Binder than went after Brad Pitt who also rejected the script. When Adam Sandler was given the script he thought the character was too challenging for him and he turned it down, however after a few weeks consideration and another read-through of the script he accepted the offer.
• The video game that Charlie is obsessed with in this film is a Playstation 2 game called Shadow Of The Colossus. Originally Charlie was supposed to play a generic 80's video game, however director Mike Binder changed this because he felt a person obsessed with the event of 09/11 would take comfort in the imagery of bringing down a colossus over and over again.
• Early in production before the title was decided on this film was known as Empty City before being changed to Reign O'er Me and finally Reign Over Me.
