DESCRIPTION:
Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick
return to their award-winning roles in the hilariously funny film of the
Broadway smash-hit. Scheming producer Max Bialystock (Lane) and his mousy
accountant, Leo Bloom (Broderick), discover that under the right circumstances
they could make more money on a flop than they could with a hit. But will
they do when their sure-to-offend musical becomes a surprise sensation?
Co-starring sexy Uma Thurman and comedy genius Will Ferrell, The Producers
is a fun-filled, side-splitting comedy.

Originally The Producers was a movie released in 1968,
it was then remade into a full on stage musical in 2001, then adapted back
into a movie for this 2005 release starring the stars of the Broadway show.
Nicole Kidman first landed the role of Ulla after Broderick
offered her the role while filming The Stepford Wives, but she had
to drop off the project when it came time to shoot due to scheduling conflicts.
The part was then given to Uma Thurman.
This movie jokes about their being a musical version of Hamlet,
when in fact this is not entirely a joke. There really was a musical called
Rock-a-bye
Hamlet that starred Beverly D'Angelo and closed on Broadway after only
7 performances.
Many of the extras seen in this movie are actually not actors
but people who got their roles by donating to a charity event in which
they got to be an extra.
