TRIVIA TO IMPRESS YOUR EASILY IMPRESSED FRIENDS

• This film was originally largely based on the book The Frog Princess, however the title and many plot points had to be changed after the same groups that lobbied Disney for an African-American Princess complained that the title was disrespectful to their race. In addition the main character's name was changed from Maddy to Tiana as they complained that the name Maddy was too similar to "Mammy" which was offensive. Finally Tiana's profession was changed from a maid to waitress, as they also felt that her profession was seen as racist as well.
• This is the first Disney 2-D hand drawn film since Home On The Range. In fact Disney had actually dismantled it's CAPS machine used in all previous hand drawn animation films since The Little Mermaid, because they were confident that they would never make another hand drawn feature. As a result, they had to create a whole new system piggybacking on a system already in place for Disney cartoons made for TV.
• Both Tyra Banks and Alicia Keys lobbied Disney personally for the chance to play the part of Tiana as she marks the first African American Disney Princess.
• This is the first 2-D Disney film to not have separate voice actors for the singing and the speaking parts since Beauty And The Beast.
• The Crocodile in this film is named Louis after Jazz great Louis Armstrong, while the firefly is named Ray, after Ray Charles.
