TRIVIA TO IMPRESS YOUR EASILY IMPRESSED FRIENDS

• Just in case it wasn't clear, this movie is based on the novel Push by Sapphire.
• This film marks the first time that a movie directed by an African American has nominated for Best Picture, while Geoffrey Fletcher became the first African American to win an Oscar in any writing category.
• Mo'Nique agreed to due this film because she was a victim of incest in her youth and she wanted to raise awareness of sexual abuse issues.
• Although it is highly publicized that Oprah Winfrey and Tyler Perry "present" the film, they were not involved in financing or making the movie in any way. Oprah saw a screening of the film and said she wanted to help distribute the finished product and called Tyler Perry who also agreed to help out in getting the film distributed.
• On the original cover of the novel the title reads as "Push A Novel By Sapphire", playing into that the film was original supposed to be called Push: Based On The Novel By Sapphire. To avoid confusion with the other 2009 film Push, the film was changed to Precious, but for unknown reasons the follow up Based On The Novel 'Push' By Sapphire, was added back on. The most unusual thing about all of this is that in conjunction with the film's release reprints of the novel have now been released and the title of the book has actually been changed to Precious: Based On The Novel 'Push' By Sapphire, meaning that the novel itself is now being tagged as being based on itself.
