TRIVIA TO IMPRESS YOUR EASILY IMPRESSED
FRIENDS

-
The studio and insurers of the film were so worried that
80-year-old director Robert Altman would die during filming, they hired
on Paul Thomas Anderson as a "back-up" should Altman not be able to finish
the film.
-
In the scene where Kevin Kline's character is opening a bottle,
the cork flies off screen and you can hear someone say "Ow!" The voice
is that of director Robert Altman who was struck in the head by the cork
in an unscripted accident. The footage was able to be used however when
Kline simply yells "sorry" in character and then continues with the scene.
-
All the actors in the film did all of their own singing and
instrument playing live on stage, choosing not to rely on pre-recorded
music. In addition most of the film was shot on location in Fitzgerald
Theater in St. Paul, Minnesota which is where the radio show this film
is based on was actually shot.
-
Actor/Screenwriter Garrison Keillor named Lindsay Lohan's
character in the film Lola after the song Whatever Lola Wants, Lola
Gets. He named her this because Lohan managed to talk her way into
the movie regardless of the fact that there was no role for her to play
and he was forced to write one.
-
Before Kevin Kline got the part Of Guy Noir it was offered
to George Clooney who had to decline the role due to scheduling conflicts.
-
Michelle Pfeiffer was originally slated to play the role
of The Dangerous Woman but backed out at the last minute and was replace
by Virginia Madsen. Director Robert Altman was so impressed by Madsen that
the cuts he originally had planned for the character were abandoned and
the part was not cut down.
