WHAT THE STUDIO WANTS YOU TO KNOW
DESCRIPTION:
You demanded it and now the
surprise hit critics call "one of the scariest movies of all time" can
be experienced in the most terrifying place of all... your home.
After a young, middle-class couple
moves into what seems like a typical suburban house, they become increasingly
disturbed by a presence that may or may not be demonic but is certainly
most active in the middle of the night. Especially while they sleep.
Paranormal Activity builds
suspense night after all the way to the shocking ending. Roger Ebert calls
it "truly scary." Go ahead, we dare you to watch it at home... at least
you can leave the lights on.

This movie was filmed for a total cost of about $15,000,
and in the film's first week of limited release it made $9.1 million, opening
in just 200 theaters. Writer/Director Oren Peli filmed the movie in his
own house and reportedly paid the stars of the film Katie Featherston and
Micah Sloat just $500 a piece.
-
This movie first premiered in October 2007 at the Screamfest
Film Festival, it then disappeared before showing up again in January 2008
at the Slamdance Film Festival. The movie went underground again before
getting a limited film release in September 2009. Thanks to an aggressive
PR campaign asking people to request the movie be screened in their area,
the film finally gained a nationwide release in October of the same year.
-
There were several changes made to the film from the first
screening in 2007 until the film's public release in 2009. The most notable
of these was a new ending which was suggested by Steven Spielberg after
he saw an early screening of the film.
