TRIVIA TO IMPRESS YOUR EASILY IMPRESSED FRIENDS

• This movie is based on the Broadway Musical of the same name by Arthur Kopit and Maury Yeston which is itself adapted from the Italian original musical of the same name written by Mario Fratti. Interestingly the song from the play for which the movie named Nine was cut from the film adaptation, and thus the reason for the film's title is never revealed in the movie.
• This movie was plagued from the start, first the production was delayed  due the writer's strike of 2007 and 2008. Then Javier Bardem dropped out of the lead role due to exauhstion and had to be replaced by Daniel Day-Lewis. Then just before shooting started Catherine Zeta-Jones walked away from her part of Claudia after director Rob Marshall refused to rewrite the part to her liking.
• There were so many actress and actress interested in starring in a musical that several big names had to be turned away, including: Amy Adams, Gwyneth Paltrow, Anne Hathaway, Sienna Miller, Katie Holmes, Renee Zellweger, Demi Moore, Juliette Binoche and Lindsay Lohan.
