-
Many people mistakenly assume that this film was directed
by Tim Burton since it is always listed as Tim Burton's The Nightmare
Before Christmas. He was not in fact the director of this film, he
didn't even write the screenplay, he did write the poem on which the screenplay
was based, but in his poem the only characters he created were Jack, Zero,
and Santa.
-
The opening of this film was originally narrated by Patrick
Stewart, the recording can be heard on the film's soundtrack.
-
Many people wonder why there is an exhibit based on this
movie at Disneyland when this film was released under Touchstone. Touchstone
is in fact a division of Disney, and in the early stages of production
this film was slated to be released under the Disney name, in fact there
was even a teaser trailer for the film comparing the animators of this
movie to Walt Disney himself. However then Disney CEO made the decision
to release the film under the Touchstone name fearing the film was too
dark and scary for kids. In 2006 when the film was released in 3-D it was
released as a Disney film.
-
Burton said that he had wanted to direct this film but had
prior commitments to Batman Returns, he did however select Henry
Selick to replace him.
-
This marks the first full-length feature film that was done
entirely in stop motion.
-
After Chris Sarandon was cast as the voice of Jack Skellington,
Sarandon confessed he didn't have a great singing voice. As a result Danny
Elfman considered taking over the role, but decided to just do the singing
and left Sarandon in place to the speaking lines for the character.
