This holiday season Clark Griswold (Chevy Chase) vows his clan will enjoy "the most fun-filled old-fashioned family Christmas ever." Before you can sing "Fa-la-la-la-lah," he decks the halls with howls of folly in the perennial favorite National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation.

John Hughes adapted the screenplay from his short story titled Christmas 59, which was printed in National Lampoon Magazine in 1980. This was the second Vacation story to printed in the magazine, the first was called Vacation 58 which served as the basis for the original Vacation movie.
In all of the previous Vacation movies Rusty is always older then his sister Audrey, however in this film, Audrey is older than Rusty.
