From the director of Arlington Road comes a spine-tingling, super-natural thriller based on actual events that will rattle your nerves and shake your beliefs.
    Distraught by the sudden, tragic death of his wife (Debra Messing), John Klein (Richard Gere), a journalist for the Washington Post, finds himself mysteriously drawn to a small West Virginia town when his car inexplicably strands him. Rescued by the sympathetic but skeptical local police sergeant (Laura Linney), he soon learns that many of the town's residents have been beset by bizarre events, including sightings of an eerie "moth-like" entity, similar to the one seen by his late wife. Investigating further and having his own terrifying encounters with the creature, he becomes obsessed with the idea that this supernatural being can predict impending calamities and is trying to warn the town of one. Is this a psychic delusion brought on by his grief or can he convince the police sergeant that there's a tragedy that must be averted? His life and potentially others' lives, depend on his making the right choice before time runs out.

• The is film is based on the book by the same name by John A. Keel, which is in turned based on actual events that took place in Point Pleasant, Virginia between November 1966 and December 1967.
• Director Mark Pellington was outraged to find out just days before shooting began on this film that the studio reduced his budget for the film by 2 million dollars. A similar situation had happened to him when making his previous film, Arlington Road, Pellington felt that movie was not as good as it could have been due to budget constraints.
• The Mothman face can be seen in a few obvious places throughout the film, but some of the faces can only be seen for a few frames and if watched at full speed you will miss them. One such example is in the scene where the bridge collapses and a wire smashes into the windshield of a car. if you watch this happen frame by frame you will see the Mothman face as a reflection in the windshield. The faces appear 5 other times as well, but I will leave the others for you to find.
