TRIVIA TO IMPRESS YOUR EASILY IMPRESSED FRIENDS

• Originally this film was to be called The Bride And The Wolf and was written with Sally Field in mind to play the lead character.
• When Cher was originally asked to play the role she had just finished shooting two other films back to back and had initially turned the part down because she felt she was too tired to film another film so quickly.
• Nicolas Cage was not a well known actor when this film was set to film, and after a poor screen-test the studio wanted to cast someone else in the part. However Cher felt he was perfect for the role and threatened to walk away from the project if Cage was not cast. After a 15 day standoff the studio agreed to cast Cage in the role.
• Originally director Norman Jewison had wanted to get Anne Bancroft or Maureen Stapleton to play the role of Rose, it was only because of the high cost they demanded for doing the part that they decided to give Olympia Dukakis a screen-test. Dukakis went on to win an Academy Award for her performance in the role.
• Norman Jewison was fined by the actors union for not letting the actors leave for lunch until he felt they had perfected the mood all of the characters needed while filming the final scene in the kitchen.
