In the end credits of the film one of the groups thanked
by the producers is "The Hanso Foundation" a fictitious organization linked
to the TV series Lost which director J.J. Abrams created.

Before Keri Russell landed her role in this film, the part
was offered to Scarlett Johansson who accepted the role only to pull out
before filming began.

David Fincher was original slated to direct this film, he
had been working on a script that involved Ethan Hunt busting open an African
black market body part smuggling ring. He dropped out early in the project
and was replaced at Tom Cruise's request by Joe Carnahan after the actor
was impressed by Suspect Zero. Just weeks into the production the
director left sighting creative differences. The project then went into
hiatus and Cruise went on to film War Of The Worlds. The helm was
then handed to Brett Ratner, but on Tom Cruise's return Ratner was replaced
with J.J. Abrams as Cruise had been impressed with the director after watching
a few episodes of Ailias on DVD. Abrams agreed to sign on and left
the project he had been working on Superman Returns. Ratner ended
up directing X-Men: The Last Stand after Bryan Singer left that
film to direct Superman Returns.

The role of the villain in this movie was offered to Kenneth
Brannagh who had to drop off of the film after it's long delays.

In the draft of the script that Joe Carnahan was working
on Thandie Newton was offered a chance to come back as Nyah from Mission:
Impossible 2 but declined the offer. The roles was the rewritten and
offered to Carrie-Ann Moss, however after Abrams took over directing the
film he re-wrote the script yet again and eliminated the part that Moss
would have played.
