TRIVIA TO IMPRESS YOUR EASILY IMPRESSED FRIENDS

-
This movie is based on the TV show of the same name that
ran from 1966-1973.
-
Screenwriter Robert Towne said that his script was written
around action scenes that John Woo requested be in the movie.
-
Due to his role in this movie Dougray Scott had to abandon
his role as Wolverine in X-Men because shooting went over schedule.
-
Oliver Stone was originally scheduled to direct this film,
but had to pull out after Tom Cruise committed to a long shoot with Stanley
Kubrick in Eyes Wide Shut.
-
The first cut of this film was over three and a half hours
long, the studio gave the film back to John Woo and told him the film could
not exceed two hours.
-
In the scene where the knife stops just before hitting Cruise's
eye, Cruise insisted that a real knife be used and that it stop exactly
three quarters of an inch from his eye despite Woo insisting it could stop
just near his eye. As a result a cable was built and measured to exactly
enough length to stop three quarters of an inch away from Cruise's eye.
In addition to using a real knife, Cruise instructed Dougray Scott to stab
at his eye using all of his force so it would look real.
