TRIVIA TO IMPRESS YOUR EASILY IMPRESSED FRIENDS

This movie is based on the TV show of the same name that ran from 1966-1973.
Peter Graves was originally asked to play the role of Jim Phelps, the same man who played the role on the TV series, but Graves turned the role down when he found out what happens to the Phelps character in the movie.
Before Emmanuelle Beart was offered the role of Claire, it was offered to Julliette Binoche, but she turned the role down.
Alan Silvestri was originally hired to score this movie but was later replaced by Danny Elfman. Silvestri had already composed 23 minutes worth of music which he incorporated into his next project, the score for Eraser.
In the now famous scene where Cruise hangs from wires inches above a pressure sensitive floor Cruise kept losing balance and hitting his head on the floor. They finally decided to counter balance his shoes with coins to keep the actor more balanced.
Mission: Impossible marks the first time a film was shown at more than 3,000 theaters in the U.S.
