Living on the tattered fringes of society, these two outcasts develop an unlikely bond - one that trancends their broken dream and get-rich-quick schemes and makes Midnight Cowboy "that rarest of things: [a film] every bit as moving now as it was when it [first] realesed" (Premiere Magazine).

TRIVIA TO IMPRESS YOUR EASILY IMPRESSED FRIENDS

• This movie is based on the book of the same name by James Leo Herlihy.
• This is the only "X" rated movie to ever win an Academy Award for Best Picture, however in subsequent re-releases the rating was lowered to an "R" rating.
• The song "Lay Lady Lay" by Bob Dylan was written for this movie, however it was not completed in time to make it into the final cut.
• Dustin Hoffman kept pebbles in his shoe to ensure that his limp would remain constant.
• Producers of the film were worried that Dustin Hoffman was to all-American to play the role of Ratzo, in order to prove them wrong Hoffman asked them to meet him in downtown New York for a meeting. When they arrived at the specified corner all they found was a bum begging people for change. The waited for Hoffman for ten minutes before the bum walked up and introduced himself as Hoffman in a disguise so good they had no idea they had been standing next to the actor the whole time.
