WHAT THE STUDIO WANTS YOU TO KNOW
DESCRIPTION:
Sentinels swarm. Smith clones.
Neo flies... but perhaps not even a Chosen One gifted with astonishing
new powers can stop the advance of the Machines.
Neo. Morpheus. Trinity. They're back
for the powerful second chapter of The Matrix trilogy, and exciting
new allies join them in the struggle against foes who are cloned, upgraded
and closing in on humanity's last enclave. Back, too, are the Wachowski
Brothers and producer Joel Silver, expanding their vision with a spectacle
that rocks the senses, probes the heart and shapes filmmaking's tomorrows.
What is The Matrix? The question
is not yet fully answered. And it leads to another: Who created The
Matrix? The answers lead to more worlds of bold possibility - and to
a destiny that passes from revelations to Revolutions.

-
This film cost a fortune to make. A 1.4 mile loop highway
was built on a naval base just for the chase sequence seen in this film
and was later destroyed. In addition the special effects reportedly cost
over 100 million dollars. The studio was incredibly nervous about spending
that much money worrying they would never make the money back. As a result
Keanu Reeves agreed to take a clause out of his contract that would have
allowed him to receive a portion of the ticket sales. When the film was
released it grossed over 735 million in theaters alone becoming the highest
grossing R rated movie of all time. The sacrifice Reeves made on his contract
ended up costing him 38 million dollars.
-
Gloria Foster who played the role of The Oracle died during
production of this film, however most of her scenes were already filmed
by the time she died, so some scenes were moved to the third film and some
were cut completely. In the third film The Oracle is played by Mary Alice.
-
The role of The Architect was offered to Sean Connery, however
he turned the role down because he didn't understand the movie. Connery
also turned down a role in Lord Of The Rings for the same reason.
-
Seraph was a role created by the Wachowski brothers for Jet
Li. However when they contacted him to play the part Li turned it down.
The brothers then revamped the role and made it into a female and offered
it to Michelle Yeoh, however she had to pass on the project due to prior
commitments.
