This movie is based on the book of the same name by John
Grogan who based the novel on real-life events. The real John Grogan actually
has a cameo in the film, he plays the owner of the Cocker-Spaniel during
the obedience school scene.

Marley the dog, is actually played by no less than 22 different
dogs throughout the film.

Owen Wilson's real-life parents played his character's parents
in the film as well. When asked about the experience his mother said she
enjoyed it, but her biggest problem was remembering not to call him Owen
when they were filming their scenes.
