DESCRIPTION:
The Coen brothers are back
with a dark and twisted film noir unlike anything you've ever seen. Set
in a small 1949 California town, this is the story of a seemingly simple
barber, who turns to blackmail and revenge to escape his achingly dull
life. But in the tradition of classic noir, nothing goes as planned and
nothing is as it seems. And as the barber's plot unravels, the delicious
surprises, stunning revelations and just plain strange occurrences will
disturb and delight you long after the film has ended.

FRIENDS
-
The Coen brothers said they came up with the idea for this
film by accident. After wrapping filming on one of their earlier films,
the Coen brothers took a prop poster showing a variety of 1950's haircuts
and hung it in their office. The brothers decided they wanted to write
a story about the barber who cut all of those haircuts seen on the poster
and the story evolved into The Man Who Wasn't There, however originally
the movie's title was The Barber.
-
Billy Bob Thornton was a big fan of the Coen brothers and
he agreed to do the film without having ever read the script.
-
This film was shot in color and then went through a special
development process that turned the film into black and white, however
due to an error a few of the reels released to theaters had the first few
scenes shown in color before becoming black and white.
