-
This movie is based off of the book By A.J. Quinnell, which
was first made as a movie with the same name in 1987.
-
Before Denzel Washington was offered the lead role after
director Tony Scott bumped into Washington in a doctor's office waiting
room and the two struck up a conversation about the movie. At the time
the role had already been rejected by Will Smith, Bruce Willis and Robert
De Niro.
-
Tony Scott was also not the first choice to direct, the chair
was originally offered to Michael Bay who turned it down, and Antoine Fuqua
who was already committed to King Arthur. Scott was also passed
up when the original 1987 version of the film came out when the studio
passed saying he did not have any hits under his belt.
-
Screenwriter Brian Helgeland saw the original 1987 version
of the movie when it was recommended to him by a video store employee named
Quentin Tarintino. Helgeland did not originally want to write the script
for the film if he was not also going to be able to direct the film, so
the producers told him Scott would probably not end up directing the movie
because he was committed to something else already. There were no other
commitments and Scott ended up directing anyway.
-
Dakota Fanning had to take Spanish, piano, and swimming lessons
for her role, but had to employ a stunt burper as she could not make herself
do it.
