• This movie is based on the 1962 screenplay of the same name written by George Axelrod, which was itself based on the book written by Richard Condon.
• The reason the word Manchurian is used in this title is because in the original story Chinese Communist brainwashed a US Presidential nominee and were controlling, all though that plot point has been changed in this film, the title was kept the same.
• Daniel Pyne was reportedly paid $1 million dollars for the first draft of this script, an unusually high amount for any screenwriter to receive.
• Leiv Schreiber prepared for his role by studying Robert F. Kennedy, while Meryl Streep researched political columnist Peggy Noonan to help create her character.
