• This movie is based on the stage musical of the same name, which was written by Catherine Johnson and directed by Phyllida Lloyd both of whom stayed on as screenwriter and director for the film version.
• This was the first film to be shot at the new Pinewood Studios, which is most famous for being the main shooting location for all of the James Bond films. The old studios were destroyed in a fire shortly after Casino Royale finished filming there.
• This movie became the highest grossing film of all time in the U.K., beating out Titanic which held the record previously since 1997.
