-
This film is based on the comic book series of the same name
created by Alan Moore and Kevin O'Neill.
-
In the original screenplay there was an additional character
named Campion Bond who was rumored to be played by Roger Moore. However
the character was cut and was saved in hopes of him appearing in the sequel.
Instead the character of Tom Sawyer was added to the film, the producers
insisted on adding an American character because they thought that the
American audience would want to see the film if one of their own wasn't
represented in The League.
-
Director Stephen Norrington and Sean Connery continually
butted heads and spoke publicly about the problems they each had with each
other. After the completion of the film Norrington declared he would never
direct another film, and Connery declared he would never act in another
film. As of 2009 both have kept their word.
-
In an interview Sean Connery, he stated that he was offered
a role in Harry Potter and he didn't understand it, so he turned
it down and the film became a smash hit. He was later offered a role in
The
Lord Of The Rings, but again declined because he didn't understand
it. After he saw how well both franchises were doing, he accepted the role
in this film because when he read the script he didn't understand it so
he figured he should not let another opportunity pass him by.
-
There was a scene that never made it into the film in which
Tom Sawyer reveals that his close friend Agent Huck Finn was murdered by
The Fantom when the pair were tracking him for the U.S. Government, and
this is why he is so intent on joining The League and killing The Fantom.
