DESCRIPTION:
A story M. Night Shyamalan
told his children is the springboard for this spellbinding plunge into
the supernatural. Paul Giamatti plays an apartment manager who finds an
otherworld water nymph named Story (Bryce Dallas Howard) in the pool, then
sets out to help her return to her home, The Blue World. "It's about to
get very dangerous." she warns. And very fascinating. Because fierce Blue
World monsters prowl nearby, determend to destroy Story - and anyone who
aids her, including the aprtment dwellers who come to realize they are
players in her tale. Their lives have undiscovered purposes. And how they
defy the monsters to fulfill those destinies forms the amazing heart of

-
This film is based upon a bedtime story that M. Night Shyamalan
wrote for his children and then later adapted into a film.
-
The majority of this film was shot in Pennsylvania, director/writer
M. Night Shyamalan's home state. The filmmaker tried to film as much of
his movies there as he can, when filming this movie he even stipulated
that the location for filming needed to be no more than 45 minutes away
from his house. The warehouse that was used for a sound stage was approximately
43 minutes from his home.
-
Originally this film was set to be produced under the Disney
name as all of Shyamalan's previous films were, but he left the studio
and chose to go it alone due to creative differences. The story of how
that happened even inspired a book called The Man Who Heard Voices:
Or, How M. Night Shyamalan Risked His Career on a Fairy Tale.
