Academy Award nominated stars Joaquin Pheonix (Best Supporting Actor, Gladiator, 2000) and John Travolta (Best Actor, Pulp Fiction, 1994) ignite the intense action in this heroic tale of ordinary men with uncommon courage! As part of a tightly knit brotherhood of skilled firefighters, Jack Morrison (Pheonix) grows from inexperienced rookie to seasoned veteran as he faces a dangerous job that makes him a hero to strangers but often shortchanges his wife (Jacinda Barrett - The Human Stain) and kids. Then when he becomes trapped in the worst blaze of his career, the things Jack holds most important - family, duty, courage - come sharply into focus.

TRIVIA TO IMPRESS YOUR EASILY IMPRESSED FRIENDS

Joaquin Pheonix went to a fire academy for a month of training for this role, as well as spent another month training with Baltimore's Truck 10 which he is now an honorary member of.
The warehouse being burned in this movie could be seen from the interstate, and the Baltimore fire department kept receiving phone calls about the controlled blaze from people concerned it was a real fire.
Joaquin Pheonix had to overcome his intense fear of heights for this movie. When the filming started he couldn't so much as slide down a fire pole.
