TRIVIA TO IMPRESS YOUR EASILY IMPRESSED FRIENDS

• This movie is based on the book of the same name written by Gene Brewer, who based this book on his own experiences working at the Manhattan Psychiatric ward when he was introduced to a man who identified himself as Prot.
• Originally Will Smith was supposed to play Prot and Kevin Spacey Dr. Powell, however, Smith ended up dropping off the project, and Spacey jumped at the chance to switch roles.
• The sunglasses Spacey wears throughout the movie were on loan from U2 front-man Bono, who insisted that the glasses be handled with care, and were returned as soon as filming wrapped.
• In the original book one of Prot's favorite film's was Starman, which was about an alien who came to Earth, however this detail was dropped once Jeff Bridges was cast as Dr. Powell, since he himself was the actor who played "Starman".
