• This marks the 3rd version of this movie, the original was released in 1933 and written by Merian C. Cooper and Edgar Wallace. It was then followed by a remake in 1976, and then finally this version in 2005.
• Peter Jackson was given 20 million dollars to direct this movie, the largest sum ever paid in advance to a director.
• The scene that is being rehearsed by Ann and Bruce while on the boat is an actual scene from the original King Kong.
• The roar that we hear coming out of King Kong is actually a the roar of a lion played backwards and at half speed.
• King Kong's movements, facial and otherwise, were captured from the movements of real life actor Andy Serkis who also plays Lumpy in this film. Serkis used a similar technique to create Gollum in The Lord Of The Rings trilogy another Peter Jackson film. Serkis was able to become Kong by studying the movements of real gorillas in the wilds of Rwanda as well as in the zoos of England. Then sensors were applied all over Serkis' body to capture his movements and translate them into Kong, 132 sensors were on his face alone.
• A four block area of 1933 New York city was built one story high for this movie, the rest was added using digital effects. Many of the other scenes, including the historically accurate Times Square were also actually built but on a much smaller scale.
