Doug Liman had originally wanted the role of David to go
to rapper Eminem. Some reports say Liman says he changed his mind after
meeting Hayden Christensen, other say Eminem simply turned the role down.

The crew was actually granted permission to film inside the
Roman Coliseum for three days, however there were a lot of rules they had
to follow. They were only allowed to film from 6:30am-8am and again from
3:30pm-5:30pm so they would not bother the tourists. They were also not
allowed to use artificial lighting, they could only use the natural sunlight
that hit the building. In addition they were not allowed to set any filming
equipment on the ground.
