After it's release a high school biology teacher named Brian
Webster from Detroit sued 20th Century Fox, claiming that he submitted
the idea for this movie to the studio and they never paid him for it. He
actually won the case and was award 19 million dollars. However the amount
was later reduced down to 1.5 million after it was proven that the original
idea in script form was purchased prior to the man sending in his idea.
The judge acknowledged that it was possible for two people to independently
have the same idea.
-
The inspiration for this film came from the holiday rushes
in the 1980's in which parents scrambled to get Cabbage Patch dolls for
their kids.
-
If you wait until the end of the credits, there is an extra
scene depicting what happens to the family on Christmas morning.
-
The Christmas parade seen in this film was actually shot
at Universal Studios on the back lot in the middle of May.
