THE
GEEK BOX TRIVIA TO IMPRESS YOUR EASILY IMPRESSED FRIENDS
Screenwriter Justin Theroux got the gig writing this film's
sequel after Robert Downey Jr. recommended him to Jon Favreau. Downey Jr.
had previously worked with Theroux on Tropic Thunder.
Mickey Rourke's character in this film is actually a combination
of 2 different Iron Man villains. The first is Whiplash, and the
other is the Crimson Dynamo. Rourke prepared for his role by visiting a
prison in Russia to get down the accents and the culture for his character.
Don Cheadle was brought in to replace Terrance Howard after
negotiations fell through with Howard for him to reprise the role. Rumor
has it that Howard wanted more money than Marvel was willing to pay.
Scarlett Johansson wanted the part of Natalie Rushman so
badly that she actually died her hair red for the audition and in the process
beat out the likes of Gemma Arterton, Jessica Biel and Natalie Portman.
When she got the part she trained for 6 weeks to get into shape to convincingly
play the part.
The scenes in the film showing Howard Stark presenting his
"city of tomorrow" was largely based on Walt Disney's presentations of
his EPCOT (Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow) vision.
