• According to Spike Lee, Ron Howard was originally supposed to direct this film, but dropped off the project after Russell Crowe showed him the script for Cinderella Man.
• This marks the 4th appearance of Denzel Washington in a Spike Lee film.
• This movie was filmed in a mere 39 Days.
• In an homage to the film Dog Day Afternoon, not only is the film mentioned in dialogue, but 2 actors from the film reprise their roles in this film. Marcia Jean Kurtz plays a hostage named Miriam in both films, and Lionel Pina is the pizza delivery man in both films as well.
• Spike Lee also inserted references to some of his previous films as well. Denzel Washington has pizza delivered to the hostages from Sal's Pizzeria quotes a line from the film Do The Right Thing. Also at the end of the film we can see Denzel's girlfriend's brother passed out on the couch holding a bomb shaped bottle, a reference to the alcoholic drink "Da Bomb" featured in Bamboozled.
