TRIVIA TO IMPRESS YOUR EASILY IMPRESSED FRIENDS

• Sean Penn had insisted that the soundtrack consist of numerous Beatles song, however he was unable to secure the rights for the original songs so he had other artists sing covers of the song and put them in the film instead.
• To get an idea of how to accurately portray a mentally challenged person Sean Penn spent many hours at the L.A. Goal center for the mentally challenged and observed and interacted with many of it's residents.
• During the flashback scenes that show Lucy as a three-year-old, the child playing the role is Dakota Fanning's real-life younger sister Ella.
