TRIVIA TO IMPRESS YOUR EASILY IMPRESSED FRIENDS

• This movie is partially based on the actual experiences of Mark Boal, an American journalist who was stationed with a bomb squad During the Iraqi War. Boal wrote the screenplay for this film himself, and also served as a co-producer as well.
• Kathryn Bigelow is James Cameron's first ex-wife, however the two still remain friends. In fact it was Cameron who convinced Bigelow to direct the film after reading the script. In the end the two filmmakers ended up battling for Best Picture and Best Director at the Golden Globes and Academy Awards.
• Much of the filming was shot using three or four hand held super 16mm cameras at a time. At the end of the filming process there was more than 200 hours of footage to sort through, topping the previous record for unused footage held by Francis Ford Coppola's Apocalypse Now.
• This movie was shot on location in Jordan during a record heat wave. Several members of the crew came down with heat stroke and heat sickness, however this did not sop Jeremy Renner from wearing a full bomb suit during several of his scenes.
