HEFE'S REVIEW OF:
THE RAINMAKER

OPENING THOUGHTS

I decided to watch this movie, why, because it was on HBO for free and I figured it would be more comfortable that jamming the remote up my asshole, which coincidentally was the only other option at the time. So I watched it, why the fuck not I thought to myself, and I think in a way I meant it.

ACTING

MATT DAMON did a good job in this film, this was one of his first leading roles, in fact this movie came out the same year as Good Will Hunting the movie that catapulted Matt Damon and Ben Affleck right up in everyone's grill. All I can say is I am glad this role went to Damon instead of Affleck because somehow I don't think Affleck could do a southern accent without sounding like a douche. I mean to be honest a lot of the time now he sounds like a douche, can you imagine the tragedy of a southern douche?
CLAIRE DANES got the beating she finally deserved in this movie. I have never been a fan of hers and this movie didn't change that opinion for me. I am fairly certain that her character was made simply so a woman could say thing like "you a lawy'r?" and "that was some mighty fine lawyerin'" in a thick southern accent. I am just glad someone had the sense to slap her for her mistakes.
JON VOIGHT was great in this movie, after seeing all of his more recent work I nearly forgot that he could actually act. He was great as the villain lawyer, and much like in super hero movies, the villain helped give the hero is power. Sweet. His slicked back hair, southern drawl, and expensive suits all helped contribute to his persona of being a dick.
MICKY ROURKE was not in this movie a whole lot, but to be honest I wish he was in it more. He was easily the most entertaining part of this film. He had a kick ass beard, and you just knew that he could make anyone do anything he wanted with a flick of his over-tanned gold chain laden wrists. I like that, yes I do.
DANNY DEVITO is so small, it really comes across in this movie, sometimes depending on the way the movie is shot DeVito just looks short, but in this movie it looks like he got put in the Wonka shrinking machine. I mean, he is just so precious and small, I look at him and I think that all of he big people around him are gonna break him. He was perfect for the role though, because it added heart to the story, his small stature made a win in this movie even more unlikely. Short people usually get slapped down, but on the plus side they don't have to do that gay chicken walk to save money on bagged cereal.

DIRECTIONANDSCRIPT

FRANCIS FORD COPPOLA directed The Godfather series and a few other movies that were not even close to being as good. I would say speaking from a style point of view, this movie would probably have to be the closest to thing to that trilogy, all though it is still not nearly as good. I mean it is hard to believe that the same person could write and direct movies that great, and then make Jack. Yeah that's right he directed Jack, the movie where Robin Williams plays a boy man. Anyway I suppose I should get back to this movie. I personally am a fan of Law And Order so naturally I understood all of the courtroom terms used in the movie better than the novice Rudy Baylor who played the main character. I thought this movie was pretty good for a courtroom drama, there was good suspense, good dialogue, and the general feel of the movie was darker then most. I also couldn't help but notice the music choice in this movie was very horny. Settle down immature assholes, what I mean by that is that it used lots of horns and very much reminded me of the soundtrack from The Godfather. I guess it is clear that Coppola likes to make horny movies... you can laugh at that one, I am giving it to you on a silver platter with a side of au juice.

THEVERDICT

For a courtroom drama that has an inevitable conclusion, this movie was pretty good. It was directed and written well thanks to Francis Ford Coppola, and the cast was really put together well. If you are a fan of the law I think you would find this movie very entertaining. Just be careful of all of the ridiculous southern accents running rampant through this movie, and for God sake's be careful not to break Danny DeVito, he is very fragile.
