HEFE'S REVIEW OF:
MICHAEL CLAYTON (2007)

OPENING THOUGHTS

All I knew going into this movie is that this some fucking thing about a lawyer or something, and that George Clooney is an arrogant tool. That's all, oh and I also knew that this movie had Tilda Swinton in it, and it was responsible for awarding a man an Academy Award in the Best Supporting Actress category for the first time in history.

ACTING

GEORGE CLOONEY is what I like to refer to as a Deuch-Magoosh. It essentially means it is a guy who is so self-righteous, and loves himself so much that he no longer commands my respect. With his twisted half-grin and salt and pepper hair he walks around telling people how they should feel and what they should be doing with their lives. He should drown. I found his performance to be boring, and was quite surprised when he got a nomination for Best Actor, especially when they over-looked him for his performance as "Nipple-Suit Batman". He should drown.
TILDA SWINTON is one of my least favorite things, now I say thing because she is androgynous, and I hate things that are androgynous, just pick a sex already! I was very dismayed when she won the Oscar for her role in this movie. Now that being said, I had to admit she did do a good job with her role. She showed a lot of emotion, from what I saw when I wasn't completely averting my eyes anyway.
TOM WILKINSON was by far the best person in this film. His acting work in this movie was great, and over-the-top as his role was meant to be it was still the most believable of the bunch. I truly enjoyed  journeying down the rabbit hole with him as I saw just how crazy he could become. If it had not been for Javier Bardem putting in the performance of a life-time in No Country For Old Men, Wilkinson would have been my next choice for the award.

DIRECTION AND SCRIPT

TONY GILROY who impressed me so much with his past work on The Bourne series really disappointed me here. I found this movie to be boring as the film plotted a long at a snail's pace. I never once felt the suspense I should have felt while watching the movie, I never felt sorry for the character's like I know I should have, and while part of that is to be attributed to the actors, a large part of that should also be attributed to the writer and the director, which means you Tony Gilroy. Now I am going to let it slide this time, but it's time you stop playing John Grisham and get back to making entertaining movies.

THE VERDICT

If you are really into lawyers you might like this film, but really I found this movie to be boring and over-rated. The best reason to watch this movie is for Tom Wilkinson who portrays a man gone crazy perfectly. As a whole film though I really found it to be the most over-rated film of the year! The exclamation point was added in hopes of getting that line put on the film's box. It's all about excitement!
