A rare convergence happened with this
movie, one of my favorite actors teamed up with one of the coolest directors
in the business and managed to get away with using the word "bastards"
in the film's title. I don't care if every person in the world told me
this film was a waste of time, there was no way I was not going to give
this movie a chance, and I am glad I did. This was a really cool film,
however I can see how people could be disappointed with it. If you were
expecting the same type of nonstop violence as you saw in Kill Bill
but set in World War II France, then you will be disappointed. That is
not to say there is no violence, in fact far from it. There is a lot of
really sick and bloody shit in this movie, but it is not on the same level.
The dialogue is what really drives this movie along, and for the most part
it worked really well and kept me entertained. I do however think the movie
was about thirty minutes too long, and would have been better if they would
have cut the subplot revolving around Shoshana the escaped Jew out of the
story. Also why the fuck was Mike Meyers in this film doing his Austin
Powers voice, I can understand why he might want to try a non-comedic role,
but why would you start out using the same voice you used to make yourself
famous for comedy, and furthermore what the fuck was Tarantino thinking
about casting him in that role? But I digress, as long as you go into this
movie not expecting to be showered in a two-hour gore fest and you are
a fan of Tarantino dialogue, then I think you will find a lot to enjoy
here. If nothing else you can enjoy Brad Pitt, who puts in a truly fantastic
performance that is as entertaining as it is funny.
