HEFE'S REVIEW OF:
FIGHT CLUB (1999)

OPENING THOUGHTS

This movie is so fucking great it astonishes me. I mean how is it possible that a movie whose basic concept is about a bunch of guys punching each other could be so good. I mean go home and fuck your wife in the mouth good, and trust me I know how good fucking your wife in the mouth is, ask her about it.

ACTING

EDWARD NORTON put in a great performance as usual. He plays the stereotypical man in today's world. A tired old pussy who has no reason to get up in the morning, a man whose day to day life is so wasted that he can hardly tell the difference between awake and sleeping. I mean, I don't identify with that, but this guy I know, he is like that. I need to cry.
BRAD PITT and his boney hip also starred in this movie, and I think this character has to be ranked among the coolest characters in the history of cinema. He just does the shit the everyone thinks about all of the time, and he does it with a spin and a smile that makes me wish I had an eighth of the confidence that he exudes from knowing that he could sleep with any woman on the planet.
HELENA BONHAM CARTER is a pasty waste of space that I don't normally enjoy. While I can't say that I enjoyed her in this movie, I felt that she was appropriate for the roll. I mean can you imagine if they had given this role to like Mel Gibson? Can you imagine how different this movie would have been if Mel Gibson said "I haven't been fucked like that since grade school"? I know... I am weirded out too.
MEAT LOAF ADAY was great in this movie. This is easily his best role, in this movie he was forced to play a man who thanks to a medical condition had developed a set of boobs, and he took on that big set of bitch tits like a king takes to a crown. He ruled those titties. But titties aside, he did a great job here, and I think it really goes to show what a good director can do for actors. Baiting him with tacos also works.

DIRECTION AND SCRIPT

DAVID FINCHER is a kick ass director, he pulled some amazing performances out of the actors, and he is really good at making movies that are dark and delicious. Everything about this movie flowed together, from beginning to end. There was a great use of special effects, and well, there is really not much else to say. Fincher rocks my lame world.
JIM UHLS did a tremendous job with the script. I mean the dialogue was good, the story was good, the characters were good, like the kids say, it was all good! Since I don't read, I have not read this book, but I am told from friends who are readers, that this is one of those rare situations where the movie is better then the book. Whatever the case may be, I know that this movie is like a delicious slice of pie, mmmm!

THE VERDICT

This movie lives up to the hype, go see it, it is the type of movie that any guy can instantly relate to, and frankly most girls like it as well. It's not just about violence, there is a great story, kick ass dialogue, and great acting and direction to go along with it. Besides at the very least you know it is better than wrestling.
